Home defense firearms

Some of you know already that I purchased two handguns last month:

Smith and Wesson 40ve Sigma semiauto with 14-round mags
Ruger SP 101 .357 Magnum with 2.25" barrel, 5-shot

I am thinking about a Mossberg 500 12-gauge but not sure that it's necessary. I would love to see what you guys think. Thanks

I don't know what you're thinking, asking people like me. It's like asking a crack whore if you should buy some more crack. Of course you should buy it!

As with everything, some people will love the Mossberg, some will recommend something else. Some folks will recommend a 20 gauge vs. 12 gauge. Regardless of what you get, there's always room for a shotgun in the inventory. I've got a Mossberg 500 Persuader with the tactical stock, Mossberg Maverick 88 (cheap Chinese Mossberg 500), and a Remington 870 Police Magnum.

The beauty of these shotguns is that you can buy different barrels and use them for hunting - and having a pump shotgun for home defense is also not a bad idea. If you can get one for a decent price, go for it.

A handgun is used to fight your way back to your rifle( or shotgun) that you should have had handy when the shit broke out.

It would be a wise purchase.

A shotgun is the foundation of home defense. Short arms are backups to the long arms.

OF COURSE, buy it!

Good choice, BTW!

(if you have any options, get the 18.5 or 20 inch cylinder barrel with long shell tube, if possible! - load it up with a light or laser and possibly a pistol grip)

+1. Everyone needs a 12 ga. shotgun, first and foremost. It doesn't need to be fancy or "tacticool", just get one. CH, with the shotgun, you have the basis for the home armory, shotgun, pistol, revolver. Then, all you will need is a battle rifle, plenty of ammo for each firearm, and you're good to go!

Definitely get the Mossberg 12-gauge pump. I have one in my bedroom closet, with four rounds of 00-buckshot in the tube. For safety reasons (we have children in the home), I don't have one in the chamber. But jacking that round into the chamber will probably be all that's necessary to get a bad guy to flee the house at full speed.

Also have a .45 ACP under my bed, with two full 13-round clips, in case all else fails.
